Irish Bodhrans

Lammas Fair Ballycastle - 2013

This year our annual Lammas Fair will be held on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th August 2013 (always held on the Last Monday and Tuesday in August).  Visit Paul McAuley Bodhrán stall, Ann Street,  just opposite the Northern Bank - where some of his bodhráns will be on display.  Due to the fact that most of our bodhrans are made to order, there will be only a small selection on display, but please feel free to come and discuss your  requirements with Paul, who will be on hand to give expert advice. We are expecting the usual thousands of visitors and stalls will be set up all around the town.  Well worth a visit - especially down and around the sea-front area where there will be a market and marque - similar to St George's Market, in Belfast - all traditional crafts and home made produce and if the weather is wet then what a great place to spend a bit of time brousing in comfort!!!!.

At the Ould Lammas Fair in Ballycastle long
ago

I met a pretty colleen who set me heart a-glow

She was smiling at her daddy buying lambs from Paddy Roe

At the Ould Lammas Fair in Ballycastle-O!

Sure I seen her home that night

When the moon was shining bright

From the ould Lammas Fair in Ballycastle-O!

Chorus

At the ould Lammas Fair
boys were you ever there

Were you ever at the Fair In Ballycastle-O?

Did you treat your Mary Ann

To some Dulse and Yellow Man

At the ould Lammas Fair in Ballycastle-O!

In Flander's fields afar
while resting from the War

We drank Bon Sante to the Flemish lassies O!

But the scene that haunts my memory is kissing Mary Ann

Her pouting lips all sticky from eating Yellow Man

As we passed the silver Margy and we strolled along the strand

From the ould Lammas Fair in Ballycastle-O!

Repeat Chorus

There's a neat little
cabin on the slopes of fair Knocklayde

It's lit by love and sunshine where the heather honey's made

With the bees ever humming and the children's joyous call

Resounds across the valley as the shadows fall

Sure I take my fiddle down and my Mary smiling there

Brings back a happy mem'ry of the Lammas Fair

Repeat Chorus

Testimonials

"I received my Glencloy bodhran in the mail the other day. When I opened the carrying bag and saw my bodhran, I instantly fell in love with it. What a gorgeous bit of workmanship! The finish of the bodhran is the work of a master craftsman. The meticulous attention to detail is the work of an artist. But the sound of the bodhran. This is the work of a man who knows what he is about and how to build a bodhran! The deep resonance and the wide range of tonal effects set this bodhran apart as a serious, world class instrument. If you are looking for a bodhran for any reason, then you need look no further. Stunning and beautiful, an exciting and satisfying sound, prompt and reliable service, and a reasonable price. Play on!"
